"The antioxidant vitamin versatile"

Cut apple turns brown. A copper penny suddenly becomes green, or iron nail when left outside, will not rust. What all these events have in common? These are examples of a process called oxidation. If dropped apple slices in lemon juice, however, slowed the rate at which the apple turns brown. This is the vitamin C because the lemon juice slows the rate of oxidative damage.
Since its discovery 65 years ago, and vitamin C has come to be known as a "miracle worker." Because of its role in the formation of collagen and other vital functions, and vitamin C as a key immune system nutrients and powerful free radical fighter. Better health, however, requires a balance between the production of free radicals and antioxidant protection. One of the functions of vitamin C is to get in and out of these free radicals before they create a lot of damage.

However, there is research to show that vitamin C can act as a pro-oxidant. In other words, vitamin C, under certain circumstances may in any case, act in a manner contrary to its destination. This has raised concerns among the thousands of people who supplement their diet with vitamin C. .. But that is another story.
